Here Goes Nothing…

Whatcha thinkin’ about, Jacob?

Oh, you know. Just eBay stuff.

Oh, you can put quotes here? That could come in handy sometime.

— Jacob Olle.

I love my story, but I’m getting tired of telling the same one all the time. It’s been great watching eyes light up when I share that I pack up PlayStation 3s and Legos when I get home from my full-time marketing agency job (that’s actually how I got my agency job!). I’ve found that selling on eBay, even as a side hustle, is a detail that people seem to remember.

You can always count on sometime to ask you how business is going the next time you see them. If I’m lucky, I get to tell them that it’s going well or I just hit another hot streak. There may be a few quick follow-up questions, but that’s about the end of the conversation. Not that I’m one to demand the room’s attention to share what I hope is useful, entertaining information, but I feel like I’m falling short with the answers I provide lately, at least to myself.

So I started thinking, what more can I be doing with my life that will provide valuable conversations to others? I’ve spent years telling myself and others that I want to start something of my own, I just don’t know exactly what I want to get into yet. I spent several months spitballing YouTube fame and recorded a whopping two videos (that will forever remain unseen by mortal eyes in the archives). Despite consistent (and, occasionally, stellar) positive eBay performance, I felt like I was maxed out on the platform. As it turns out, I’ve hardly even started.

I spent so long searching for an in when I was literally maintaining one this whole time. The years I’ve spent learning about and making mistakes on eBay and other buying and selling platforms are my topics of valuable conversations! I’m sick of talking about my story, though. My goal is to share the knowledge, experiences, and resources that have helped and continue to help me along the way so anyone looking for guidance can create their own successful eBay (or Facebook, or Mercari, or OfferUp, or LetGo, or Craigslist) business.

I’m going to continuously add to the Just The Flip online selling library covering everything you need to know about buying and selling on eBay, handling buyers, shipping items safely, overcoming losses, finding motivation to source and list, and everything in between. All feedback and questions are welcome without judgement. I’m here to help you get started, stay afloat, and handle difficult situations and gray areas, and I hope to develop a helpful community looking to do the same. Welcome to Just The Flip!
